Adore Living Rooms 2This week ends with a feature on the wonderful Loni Parker of the online home and lifestyle magazine – Adore Home. I think it’s a perfect start to the weekend! While working as a graphic designer in the magazine industry, in Brisbane, Loni decided to start up Adore Home late last year as a way to fuse her love for magazines with her second love for interior design. The magazine features amazing local and international homes and products.

Her latest issue is fantastic and features a great interview with the also very talented Anna Spiro of Black & Spiro in New Farm. And a sneak peak at the home of stationery queen Cristina Re. Read it online!

How did Adore Magazine come about?

I started Adore Home magazine due to my love for all things in interior design! I thought I have nothing to lose, except my own time and the rest now is history!

How have you got started…

I started the magazine as a way to do what I love – design beautiful magazines on a topic that is of great interest to me. At the time I started the magazine there were currently no other Australian online home and lifestyle magazines on the internet. I really wanted to bring Australians a great magazine that they could use as a reference point to looking at beautiful homes and products that they can then buy to put in their own homes.

I think the thing that sets my magazine apart from other similar home and lifestyle magazines, is that I showcase a lot of great product. I know myself when I look through a magazine I can’t get enough of the latest products on the market that I can then buy to decorate my own home. We also do a style to steal section after each home showcased that way people who like that home can simply go to this page and get a feel for the types of products they could purchase to recreate the look in their own home.

In a few words, describe yourself…

Hardworking, entrepreneur, creative, devoted and a tad bit crazy!

What are you spending your time on at the moment?

Working on the Aug/Sep issue of Adore already – no rest for the wicked!

Do you have a ritual for getting into the creative mindset? Or a creative process?

I don’t really have a ritual, my day job is to be creative, so I guess it’s just something that comes naturally everyday, obviously there are times when I don’t feel creative and I get stuck for ideas. When that happens, I usually try to be inspired by design books or magazines, or even websites.

What or who inspires you?

I guess I like to be inspired by lots of different things – magazines, design books, websites and blogs. Inspiration can come from anywhere though – I’m finding Youtube to be a great place to find creative motion graphics which is what is inspiring me at the moment! My boyfriend also has been a bit of an inspiration for me lately – he’s just started studying graphic design and is learning so much, it kind of inspires me to keep on learning new things.

What are you most proud of?

I’m very proud of Adore Home magazine, and very proud that I manage to produce a magazine predominantly by myself, in my own spare time whilst still working full-time. But for me, I’ve always been a hardworking person, it’s just my personality I guess. Working on the magazine isn’t hard work though, it’s fun! I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a pilot for a very long time. Actually I was going to go to the Airforce after high-school but in the last two years of high-school I really got into art and had a great art teacher that guided me into the world of graphic design and photography! So I ended up doing a graphic design degree at uni!

It’s funny to think about how different your life would be if you chose to be something else. I often think about where and what would I be doing right now if I chose to be a pilot.
