Interview with artist Danielle Reck

Danielle Reck is an Adelaide based artist and crafter. Her work is amazingly beautiful. Pen and ink in their most delicate form. Always having a passion for crafty and decorative things, Danielle has studied various types of art. After 10 years professionally making and designing costume jewellery, she’s now focusing on illustrating — in amongst being a mum!

I highly recommend popping over to Danielle’s Etsy or Red Bubble stores where you can purchase prints of her original work and beautiful gift cards. Or visit her on Facebook to discuss a custom illustration or tattoo design.

In a few words, describe yourself…

Perfectionist, kitsch, hungry and a dreamer.

What are you spending your time on at the moment?

In my house and in the playground mainly. Trying to be as entertaining as possible!

Do you have a ritual for getting into the creative mindset? Or a creative process?

I get creative in the evening with a glass of red and a comfy chair. I start with a fresh white page, often a compass, and my favourite pen and away we go.

I am always wanting to draw something prettier than the day before, with even more patterns and more detail than ever.

What or who inspires you?

Patterns, tattoos, fashion, women, hair, beauty, nature, animals and textures.

What are you most proud of?

My little girl.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be an artist or a singer… Luckily I am capable of drawing as the voice isn’t too fabulous!
