Interview with artist Anna Green
How have you got to where you are today?
I have always loved to draw, paint and make things, so it was a natural progression for me to go to college and study art and design. After that, I specialised in graphic design and started my career as a graphic designer. I have always been an avid artist and have found that my graphic background has played a large role in shaping the style of artwork.
In a few words, describe yourself…
I’m a massive geek, especially when it comes to film and music and I’m always collecting anything that grabs my attention. I love any activity that has an element of creativity be that cooking, playing the Sims or shopping for a new wardrobe! I’d say… I’m hard working, chilled out and funny.
What are you spending your time on at the moment?
At the moment I am planning a new collection of Australia inspired pieces. I plan to pick out colours, shape and textures that stand out, to create some still life pieces that hopefully encapsulate Australia in an unexpected way.
Do you have a ritual for getting into the creative mindset? Or a creative process?
I work best in an empty house or at least room, and the right selection of music is vital for me. The music I listen to directly influences all of the decisions I make when I’m painting.
I hate to stop until I’m finished so I make sure I have everything I’m going need close at hand and that I am well rested and fed so I won’t need too many breaks.
What or who inspires you?
I find inspiration everywhere! At the moment though all of the vintage cars that are driving around Australia that I have never seen before. I love geometric shapes of buildings and the way that they change depending on the light.
What are you most proud of?
The painting I’m the most proud of is one of the Holden. Hopefully it will be one of many.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Artist! And that’s still what I want to be when I grow up!
